Rafael Nadal says he and his family are ‘very well’ after birth of first child

Rafael Nadal says he and his family are “very well”, after the birth of his first child.

The 38-year-old said on social media on Tuesday he was already thinking about whether he wanted to continue his career or retire once his baby was born.

“Very well. First of all I would like to express my happiness to the family,” he said in a statement to Spanish newspaper El Pais.

“I am very pleased with the way he was born, I hope very much that everything goes well.”

Nadal, who has won the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open, also thanked the medical staff at the hospital, as well as the nurses and the support staff at court.

“My happiness lies with the little boy,” he wrote, adding that his family will get to meet him soon.

Nadal also thanked the fans who followed his progress over the last few months, as well as those who sent him messages.

“Thank you for your support, and believe in us!”

And Rafael Nadal adds to his social media footprint, posting a photo of himself looking over his baby son.

The photo is not from his match against Dominic Thiem, it shows the player who was competing at the time, with a red arrow to indicate the line where he is looking.

Nadal was forced to withdraw from his quarter-final match with Daniil Medvedev during the second set of their match in Stuttgart.

With two days to go until Nadal plays Roberto Bautista Agut in the French Open semi-finals, he has a 1-0 lead against Bautista Agut in the rankings.
