Editorial: Trump doesn’t want your vote in 2024. Just your obedience while he trashes the U.S. again and again and again.
President Trump was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday night to discuss his latest crusade. The president was joined by Stephen Colbert, whose guest list included the likes of John Oliver, Stephen Hawking, Steven Pinker (author of “The Better Angels of our Nature”), and a few of the world’s most extreme anti-free-speech activists, the likes of which have not been seen since the era of McCarthyism and, of course, the Great Communistic Propaganda Battle of The Cold War. Like it or not: the U.S. is being destroyed by an evil, criminal president who is ruining the country. But what Colbert really wanted to talk about was this: His “Top 10 List” of The Most Important Things The Rest of Us Should Do Right Now and You Should Do Right Now, based on things that we, as human beings, could accomplish in the next five years to get Trump impeached and put in jail.
Some of the list is easy, but as Leno put it, “Let me guess, you all didn’t do any of that yet.”
It’s easy to laugh at Colbert’s list, but here’s the best takeaway: As Trump makes clear time and time again, he doesn’t care about the nation he has spent his adult life running. And all his plans are focused on destroying the nation. He doesn’t care about other people. He doesn’t care about the country that he will be leaving behind one day. And he doesn’t care about the future of America as he makes clear time and time again.
That’s why we need to be doing right now what the president doesn’t want us doing: fighting back. And that’s why our president doesn’t have the power to stop our resistance. We did it so that he couldn’t stop us from doing it.
And what’s more, doing this thing he doesn’t want us doing is not just about not voting for him again. It’s also about standing up to him and about resisting, both in our everyday lives and in every form of politics.
