El Monte Police Chief Ben Lowry dies at 45 of unspecified ‘health issues’
Lowry was first hired by the LAPD in 1985. He was promoted to director of the department’s detective bureau in 2012 and served as the interim LAPD chief for the duration of the 2014 shooting of a homeless man during a protest rally at LAPD headquarters. He is survived by his wife and two children.
